Ex-Deputy PM scrapes to victory in Singapore

The ruling party de facto candidate in Singapore presidential election, scraped to victory after a dramatic recount on Sunday and quickly recognised that Singaporeans wanted a greater voice in the Government.

Three months after the opposition a historic breakthrough in parliamentary polls, was former Deputy Prime Minister Tony Tan President by a margin of only 7,269 voices of 2.1 million votes cast chosen.

The 71-year-old Bank took little more than 35 percent of the vote, also under the received 60 percent of the ruling people's action party in general elections in may, when the party had the worst ads from 52 years in power.
