Dhaka, Nov 5 (bdnews24.com) ? Dhaka City Corporation has made elaborate arrangements for the Eid-ul-Azha prayers at National Eidgah Maidan under tight security cover. Ninety five percent preparations are already in place. Now last-minute checks are going on, and Hessians and carpets (Jainamaz) being laid out.
DCC has set up mobile toilets beside the Eidgah Maidan while PWD has taken over the supervision of emergency drainage sewerage system of the ground.
Khandoker Millatur Rahman, the DCC social welfare officer, is supervising the whole Eidgah preparatory activity in the absence of mayor Sadeq Hossain Khoka, who is abroad.
State minister for religious affairs Shahjahan Mia is also currently in Saudi Arabia to supervise the Hajj management.
Millatur said arrangement has been made for 120,000 devotees to say their Eid prayers this year in the Eidgah Maidan, which also includes arrangement for prayers for 10,000 women devotees. Rain-proof tarpaulin canopy measuring 257,207 square feet has been erected, 400 ceiling fans installed and necessary ablution space arranged, he added.
"Sewer is ready for use, and there will no problem during the Eid prayer even if it rains," he informed.
He further informed that DCC has arranged 360 Eid Prayer Jamaats, four each in the 90 wards of the capital for the devotees to offer Eid prayers in peaceful atmosphere. DCC has also arranged two separate Eid Jamaats in Polashi and Dhaka University campus and funds have been allotted on behalf of the DCC.
Kabir Ahmed Bhuiyan, the PWD chief engineer, said the Fire Brigade personnel have completed arrangement for drainage of water from the Eidgah ground. The existing sewerage system is fully operational after necessary maintenance and repair work.
Special security measures have also been put in place all around the Eidgah Maidan to ensure participation of people of all sections, including the president.
The members of police and RAB have been deployed round-the-clock for safety and security. These security measures shall remain in place until the devotees leave for home after the end of the prayer. Millatur Rahman informed that the ministry of home affairs and the Dhaka Metropolitan Police are taking care of the security arrangements.
Meanwhile, DCC has also completed preparations for disposal of wastes of the sacrificial animals in the city. He sought full co-operation of the city dwellers in this regard.
CAR PARKING
Some spaces near the National Eidgah Maidan have been marked out to serve as the car parking lot for smooth movement of the crowd, which shall remain effective from the morning of the Eid day until 12 O'clock noon. DMP requested people to park their cars in these specified places.
These selected places are: car parking for government officials and socially eminent citizens in the Ganopurta Bhaban square and either side of the Zero Point and UBL crossing, south, west and on either side of Doyel Chattar, and either side of Fazlul Haque Hall to Bangobazar Hawkers' Market crossing, and either side of Matsya Bhaban crossing to Carpet Gali road crossing for general parking.
The cars of VVIPs and VIPs shall park and make movements in the fixed parking close to the National Eidgah Maidan through Matsya Bhaban and commercial cars shall park and move out of barricades placed at Government Employees' Hospital crossing, Press Club Link Road, the lane behind the foreign ministry office, sub-control room gap-UBL crossing-Doyel Chattar crossing and Matsaya Bhaban crossing.
